Robert Cooper
Chief Executive Officer
Robert Cooper, Alterra’s CEO, has over four decades of construction and development industry expertise. His tenure includes exceptional leadership, notably steering the company through the economic downturn and playing a pivotal role in Alterra’s evolution from a low-rise single-family home builder to a leading force in multi-residential condominium development in the GTA.
Beyond delivering high-quality housing, he prioritizes building relationships with all stakeholders, guided by honesty and integrity. Rob’s past involvement in industry associations has earned him recognition and numerous accolades, including the Ontario Home Builders Association Lifetime Achievement Award. Under Rob Cooper’s leadership, Alterra is committed to building the future of the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
Stuart Wilson
President
Stuart Wilson is a distinguished leader in the construction and development industry, serving as President of Alterra. He brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the industry, with a particular focus on budgeting and financial modelling.
With over 25 years of international experience, Stuart has worked on more than 500 developments spanning high-rise residential, hotel, institutional, retail, and commercial properties.
With a steadfast commitment to city building and making a difference, Stuart leads Alterra towards new heights of achievement, shaping the urban landscape with innovation, quality, and a deep-seated sense of purpose.
Annamalai (Malai) Muthu
Chief Financial Officer
Annamalai (Malai) Muthu brings almost two decades of experience and financial expertise to his role as Chief Financial Officer at Alterra. Malai oversees all financial affairs, including finance, treasury, budgeting, and planning. His expertise in modernizing financial processes and systems has been instrumental in driving efficiency and innovation within the team. Known for his forward-thinking approach and adeptness in risk management, Malai finds immense satisfaction in Alterra’s strategic agility and foresight.
Malai leverages his wealth of experience and passion for excellence to propel the company toward continued success in the dynamic landscape of integrated development and construction.
Richard Cooper
Executive Vice President
Richard Cooper is a seasoned business executive with a career spanning in construction, engineering, real estate development, and asset management. A founding member of Alterra and currently serving as the Board Chair and Executive Vice President, Richard has been an integral force behind the success of Alterra and played a pivotal role in steering the company to new heights. One of Richard’s proudest achievements lies in the impact Alterra’s buildings have on homeowners and communities alike. His commitment to excellence is reflected in the company’s ability to navigate challenges and deliver exceptional results.
Richard attended the University of Toronto, where he earned a Civil Engineering Degree, and The University of Western Ontario as an Ivey School of Business MBA graduate. Corporately he holds an ICD.D designation from the Rotman School of Business.
David Nagano
Vice President Of Construction
David Nagano, Vice President of Construction at Alterra, brings over 30 years of expertise to the land development industry as a seasoned planner, project manager, and contracts manager. He has successfully overseen diverse developments including residential high and low-rise structures, offices, commercial spaces, and land servicing initiatives.
David’s involvement spans all project phases, from understanding project cadence and strategic planning to dedicated customer care at project completion.
In his strategic role, David manages Project Management and Onsite Construction teams. His passion for the industry is evident through his unwavering commitment to delivering quality in every project.
Mary Medunic
Vice President Of Sales & Marketing
Mary Medunic is Alterra’s Vice President of Sales & Marketing and a trusted leader who goes beyond the expected to build trust and belief in Alterra. Mary embodies professionalism, ethics, and a dedication to the highest standards in the real estate industry.
With over two decades of experience in residential development sales, marketing, and client services, Mary is a standout figure with her peers. Mary’s commitment to delivering quality, down to the minutest detail, benefits both purchasers and residents. Her comprehensive engagement in every aspect of the business, coupled with her deep industry insight, distinguishes her as a benchmark in her role.
Matt MacCharles
Vice President Of Development & Acquisitions
Matt MacCharles, the Vice President of Development & Acquisitions at Alterra, brings almost two decades of industry experience to the forefront of his role. Throughout his tenure, Matt has collaborated closely with major GTA developers, contributing to a diverse array of projects spanning low-, medium-, and high-density residential developments, as well as master-planned communities.
With a keen understanding of the intricate real estate landscape, Matt is adept at navigating the complexities of project approval and execution. He plays a key role in seeking new development opportunities, recommending business cases for acquisitions and development, and ensuring the successful execution of his projects. Matt liaises with various stakeholders, including consultants, city staff, and councilors, demonstrating his commitment to fostering collaborative relationships essential to the development process.

Sharon Gerwitz, Vice President Finance at Alterra, brings over three decades of invaluable expertise to her role. With a deep understanding of audit and taxation across various sectors, Sharon has played an instrumental role in the company’s growth and success.
At Alterra, Sharon has been pivotal in steering the company’s evolution from a single-family home builder to a prominent, multi-residential, full-service developer and builder.
